The Regional museum of natural
history located in Paryavaran Parisar, Arera colony, Bhopal Which was formed in 1997 is a branch of National museum of natural
history, New Delhi.
The museum provides an unique
opportunity to explore the bio-diversity of Central India as well as the
intricate nature network around us. The exhibits the galleries are made up of
judicious mix of specimens, models, translates
and audiovisual aids. The show cases and dioramas sequenced the selected
themes. Bioscience computer room and ‘Discovery center’ are located in the
museum where learning can be fun and enjoyable. Besides there is a temporary
exhibition hall where special thematic exhibition are arranged periodically.
THE MUSEUM
The reception counter located at the entrance provide information and orientation about the museum to visitors. Wheel chair facility is available her for disabled visitors.

A family of models of Dinosaurs Triceratops, feasts the eyes of the visitors in the central courtyard of the museum. ‘Fossil excavation’ site showing exposed fossil fragments can be viewed in the area.
BIO-DIVERSITY
The theme of the present gallery is ‘Biodiversity’. Flora, Fauna, Geology and Rivers of Madhya Pradesh, the inter relationship of Nature, Conservation for development and Man and the Environment are depicted.
THE BIO MES
The tour to gallery begins with a fascinating display of 7 different natural habitats called ‘biomes’ depicting life existing in different habitats. The major ecosystem of the world, the ocean, grassland, deciduous forest, desert, tropical rain forest, coniferous forest and the polar region are shown here. Each of these Biomes shows the adaptation of plants and animals to suit the particular habitat.
MAN AND NATURE
Human being depends of nature for all their need like food, clothing, shelter and sustenance. This is depicted here through a dramatic exhibit a large diorama showing Baiga tribe living in harmony with nature.
The food produced by plants for
their own growth becomes the energy for all other life. Herbivore animals feel
on plants carnivores feed on these herbivores. Thus connected like a chain. The
several interconnected the food chains from the food web. Tropic level of
energy transfer is shown in the form of a food pyramid.

BIOGEOCHEMICAL CYCLE
Life activities are continued with a cycling of raw materials such as water, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and mineral salts. This relationship between the living and non-living environment is depicted through a series of biochemical cycles. The water cycle explains the endless circulation of the earth’s water by evaporation from the oceans, surface, lakes and rivers it’s redistribution of water to different parts of the earth is also shown. The nitrogen cycle makes us understand the pathways through which nitrogen, an essential ingredient of living matter is utilized and return to the atmosphere. Similarly mineral cycle is also presented in the exhibit.

animals found today are the result of millions of years of evolution of life on
earth. This fascinating story beginning with the origin of the earth and life
through the ages is depicted through a huge wall painting where the visitor
understand the mysteries of life over time and space. This wall painting
culminates with the emergence of modern man.
DISCOVERY CENTER
Discovery center is the area where efforts are made to activate the various senses of the young visitors who are allowed to choose one or several of the activities provided. Here the children can handle, examine and study specimens, participate in creative activities as painting modeling making animal masks, animal foot prints etc. they can find out information contained in several discovery boxes and test their knowledge about nature in the Quiz board.
TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS
A hall near the central courtyard is ear marked for exhibiting various themes of contemporary interest. These exhibits will be changed in regular intervals.
LIBRARY
The museum have a reference library with more than 5,000 books related to Botany, Zoology, Geology, Museology, Biology, Environment science, Forestry Management, Microbiology etc. visitors can make use of these books for their reference work by prior permission. No lending of books.
Wild life related films are
screened daily between 3.00 to 4.00 PM
for the visitors.

ACTIVITES
A museum communicates visitors
through exhibits and by activities. The educational activities are design to
stimulate interest in natural history. These activity orient programme create
am awareness among the public about the importance of conservation of natural
